I was fortunate to see Kraftwerk, Public Enemy and Big Audio Dynamite supporting U2 at the Stop Sellafield gig at the Gmex. To cap it all, Lou Reed joined U2 for Satellite of Love. Incredible night
You're twisting the knife with Nirvana/Tad, Steve! Few gigs I regret more not going to.
Interesting what constitutes a double header as opposed to main act/support. SY/Mudhoney, which I was at, felt like the latter at the time with the Youth very much the senior band. I take your point though.
Patti Smith and Television in 2004 springs to mind as two acts on roughly equal footing. The Academy was certainly packed for the 'support'. Or Throwing Muses/Pixies at the International in '88.
Not come across the Manchester Digital Music Archive before. That's work done for the day...
What a good memory you have. I’ve just spent half an hour trying to see who Moby supported at The Academy. It may have been St Etienne but that might have been P M Dawn. There were so many gigs then.
Saw Iggy Pop with Bowie on keyboards n background vocals at the Santa Monica Civic, CA. SO GOOD! Bowie didnt look at the audience once. There to support Iggy on sober tour. Iggy was straight out of detox as I remember. Hunt n Tony Sales tòo.
I’d want to be at all of these shows. But Run-Dmc and Beasties I’d be #1. I just repurchased king of Rock on vinyl. That was my first rap album I owned in around 85 (my 16 year old neighbor has loaned me his tape until I had the 8 bucks to buy it at Caldor).
Bob Mould supported by Mercury Rev at Manchester University in 1998 and then Bob Mould supporting the Flaming Lips at London’s Astoria in 2002 were both pretty special.
As an aside I saw Daltrey on Thursday and he was excellent, much better than I anticipated. If you can imagine the intro to Won't Get Fooled again played on violin, mandolin and accordion!?
One of the great regrets of my concert-going career is having tickets to see Jeff Beck in 2020 and it getting postponed. Once it happened he'd got Johnny Depp in tow and the whole thing was dumbed down to accommodate him. I don’t mind JD, and the Hollywood Vampires are great live, but it frustrates me that I never got to see Beck do his full thing.
Hi, another great pairing for me was the Beastie Boys, around the time of the Hello Nasty album, supported by the Jungle Brothers, who rode BMXs around a London stage. Great performances by both.

I was at that International gig too! Greatest Misses is coming soon as promised 😃

Have kept a list for a very long time! You'll find the answer on the Manchester Digital Music Archive which is great 👍

Saxon supporting Motorhead in 1980 and 2008. I saw Squeeze support The Who last year and that worked well.
Great stuff!

I saw Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jeff Beck. They were on same label and flipped who would go on first.

I only knew Wall of Voodoo for "Mexican Radio" but I listened to all of Call of the West today, really enjoyable album. Thank you!
Great record!
Einstuerzende Neubauten/ Showaddywaddy, Kilburn National Ballroom,1987 is surely the Gold Standard for double headers!
They couldn’t get Racey!
Is that actually true? Great score in Scrabble!!

I bet!!
How about The Fall supported by U2 at the Gaiety Bar/Man Fridays in Blackpool
A year later the roles were reversed
Brilliant mate!
The Secret Machines and Chemical Brothers, Manchester Apollo 11/3/2005
wow
Lovely stuff!
