The season of Lent begins next week so it felt like an appropriate moment to make my musical confession.
Father, forgive me...
...I used to think The Beach Boys were just surf pop nonsense
...I never saw The Cramps
...I put Polyfilla in my hair to make it spiky
...I quite liked Keane
...I only realised how good Jeff Buckley was after we lost him
...I used to wear a denim jacket with the arms cut off (and patches obviously!)
...I associated with fans of The Wonder Stuff
...I missed Japan at Lancaster University (1982)
...I ignored Jason Molina for years
...I didn't buy a ticket for Frank Sinatra at the Royal Albert Hall
...I bought a Kula Shaker album
...I missed 95% of a Mark Lanegan gig
...I bought into the Razorlight hype
...I used to think Bruce Springsteen was just another American stadium rocker
...I turned down a ticket for Madonna at the Hacienda (1984)
...I danced to "Dancing in the Moonlight" by Toploader
...I went to see Jet
...I ignored The Smiths for a while (long story)
...I own the first Marillion album (last song is class, to be fair)
...I quite liked Poison
...But now I have seen the light.

I just think there’s room for everything. You never hear heavy rock guys slagging any other ‘light’ performers. Some we like some we don’t. Don’t make it not good. lol
Also Poison were magnificent so totally forgiven for that one 🌟
